Grade 3 have been studying about Japan of the past in their IPC units. While they were studying Japan in their classrooms, I had them make a great presentation on Edo, which was the former name of Tokyo from 1603 to 1868. A lot of the traditional Japanese culture that we know today stems from this period.
What they had to do was make a slide for each season. They then found one artwork from that period and season, from The Brooklyn Museum website and inserted it into their slide. They then added a traditional Japanese poem (haiku) to each slide. The results are impressive and the students really enjoyed the activity. Here is one great example:
One class is finished the task and another will be finished next week, then each students presentation should be up here.
