Foods Of The World

Grade two just finished a unit on food and where food comes from. They studies a variety of aspects of food and with such a multicultural classroom I decided that it would be great to allow the students to research and present the foods from their culture or a culture they have an interest in. They worked in groups to come up with these slideshows in Keynote and then they narrated the presentations and saved them as movies. Here is a great example of foods from Korea.

My Healthy Breakfast

Grade two have been doing a lot of work on food and farming. Last week we explored a few sites that helped them understand where food comes from, how certain foods are made and how to eat a balanced meal. Armed with that knowledge, I had them draw a health breakfast and label the foods in their meals. Here are the final products:

 

 

The students created the drawings using Skitch, a free drawing and annotation software available for Mac, iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and Android. I really like Skitch because it’s quick, clean and intuitive. Give it a try!
